NAUTICAL ADVENTURES OF FREIDA AND HAROLD

28 foot Carver

This was a great all around boat for Lake Champlain. It was 8 feet wide and 22 feet long. It was ideal for 2 people with a sleeping area under the bow and the dinette converted to a double bed. It had a 2 burner range, a combination electric-ice refrigerator and a bathroom. It was powered by a single V8 engine and had a top speed of 40 mile per hour.We spent many happy days fishing, swimming and water sking on Lake Champlain.

We wanted a boat that we could live on during the summer so we traded up to this 28 foot Carver. This boat could sleep 8 people. 2 in the forward cabin, 2 on the convertible dinette, 2 on the convertible sofa and 2 on the upper deck. The upper deck had 2 back to back seats that converted to single beds. This boat had all the comforts of home with hot water and a shower. During the months of July and August we worked monday, tuesday and wednesday and took vacation days for thursday and friday. So for 2 months each summer we worked 3 days and spent 4 days on the boat cruising Lake Champlain. We did a lot of fishing especially for walleyed pike at night.

We enjoyed many happy days and nights on this boat. It had all the comforts of home which made it a pleasure to spend time on the water. One evening we were anchored on the reef near the Four Brothers islands waiting for the sun to set so we could troll for walleyes. I was casting for whatever would bite when Freida came out of the cabin with fresh baked cookies and a cup of coffee. Voices travel very well on the water and from a small boat nearby I heard a fellow say to his partner " Did you see what she just brought out to him. Now that is what I call living it up".
