JOSEPH MOCK - RIN 9

Marriage:

Joseph married Sarah Moses according to Leda Mock King.

Misc.:

Joseph is listed as one of the first settlers (in 1794) in Shefford County, Quebec, in the account of the life of Captain John Savage, V-190-1-6, Missisquoi Hist. Soc., Stanbridge East. Record V1200-2-5, MHS, a petition to Lord Dorchester for land, 23 July 1795 by Alexander Taylor, John Mock Jr., and Joseph Mock. One reference (blue book of hand copied references in the Granby record office) said that W. Ann Mock, daughter of Joseph Mock and Sarah was born on 8 Nov 1800. This date seems very early when compared with the dates of their other children. In "The Savage Family of Shefford" by N. Broadhurst, ISBN 1-895435-02-1, there is a map of Shefford Township ca 1801. Joseph Mock is mentioned on pages 39, 57, and 59-60.

Birth: Sarah was born in 1794 according to Leda Mock King.

Death:

Sarah died in 1872 according to LMK.

Misc.:

Sarah's father was James Moses and her mother was Dorothy Rowell. Information from Leda Mock King. James Moses came from England and fought with General Wolfe in the struggle to win Quebec for England. After her first husband's death, probably in 1833 (or 1855), Sarah then married Israel Lewis, but they had no children. Israel died in 1860.

Marriage: "Philena"(sic) married Stephen Berry in Shefford in an Anglican church on 21 Sep 1828 according to the "Protestant Marriages in the District of Bedford, Quebec, 1804-1879".

She married Henry Allard and secondly Hiram Gifford. (sic) Mock married Henry Allard on 10 Oct 1831 in Sh according to Protestant Marriages in the district of Witness was Jonathan Allard.

Death:

Christina died in 1881 according to Leda Mock King.

Misc.:

Christina had nine children, one of whom was Adaline Information from LMK.

SAMUEL VALENTINE MOCK - RIN 14

Death:

Samuel Valentine died on 22 March 1890 at 75yrs 6dys according to his tombstone in Pine Wood cemetery, Granby, Quebec, Canada. Also there is a record of his death in the Granby Methodist Church records for 1857 to 1928, witnesses Bethana Mock and Mary E. Hayes (signatures), John Greenfell (sp?), minister.

Misc.:

Samuel operated a saw mill and had a little old desk, a "school master's desk". This desk is now (2003) owned by Dorothy L. Carter of Clemson, SC. Orion V. Mock told a story about his grandfather, Samuel. Samuel built a dam on his property. Another man built a sawmill downstream, but when his business was not doing well, he destroyed Samuel's dam. Samuel retaliated shortly afterwards by destroying his neighbor's dam. Sorry, but the outcome of this is unknown!

Census:

In the 1842 census, Township of Granby, p.2515, Samuel V. Mock was listed as a blacksmith with a household of six persons: 1M and 1F under 5 yrs., 1F 5-14 yrs, 1M 14-18 yrs, 1M 21-30 yrs and married, and 1F 14-45 yrs and married. He attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church. He owned 1 meat cattle, 1 hog, and 1 horse, and he had a deed to his land.

Census:

In the 1880 census of Fort Edward, NY, Joseph's wife, Jane, was listed as a widow. Therefore he died before 1880.

HESTER ANN MOCK - RIN 16

Data from "Descendants of Johannes Mock" by Bernard C. Young. Another reference gave her birth as 1826 and death as 1912 (Leda Mock King). Hester Ann was born on 8 Nov 1819 according to Waterloo Records, Shefford Methodist Church.

Marriage:

Hester Ann married a Mr. Farsworth. BCY

DOROTHY ROWELL MOCK - RIN 17

Birth:

Data from "Descendants of Johannes Mock" by Bernard C. Young. Dorothy R. was born on 2 Feb 1826 according to "Shefford County Cemeteries, Tombstone Inscriptions, Protestant" Vol II, p.48.

Marriage:

Dorothy married James Hobbs (30 Aug 1828 to 25 Feb 1916) according to BCY. According to the "Protestant Marriages in the District of Bedford, Quebec, 1804-1879", "Dorathy R." (sic) married James Hobbs in a Methodist Church in Shefford on 1 Mar 1853. (Waterloo St. Paul's) Death: Dorothy Mock died on 8 Aug 1912 according to the Granby Methodist Church death records, 1857 to 1928.
